Heavy Machinery

Marine engines, excavators, combines, diesel locomotives, and mining equipment are some of the largest cargoes shipped by sea, road, and rail. Stringent requirements apply to the transport of machinery, since parts are manufactured from a wide variety of materials, each with their own sensitivities.

Aside from careful handling, machinery requires particular humidity/moisture and ventilation conditions. At elevated temperatures in the tropics, even corrosion protection agents  do not provide adequate protection.

Steamship lines shipping heavy machinery to or from the United States are often able to benefit from a favorable limitation of liability, contractual provisions aside. However, the other forms of transport (road, rail, air) do not contain such limitations. J.V. Watts can assist cargo owners in carefully investigating these sensitive losses, and ultimately  recovering from the liable party.
