Furniture

Furniture is generally shipped in dry box containers. However, due to the generally bulky nature of couches, ottomans, and desk, furniture is often ripe for rough handling damages. Careless crane operators and forklift drivers often assume that because a cardboard box is large, it can absorb some damage.

Broken legs, ripped seats, and crushed arms are unfortunately very common occurrences. When a hole develops in a container, wet damaged furniture can become moldy and develop musty odors that render them unsalable to customers. Brand protection clauses also forbid insureds from reselling damaged furniture on secondary markets.

J.V. Watts & Co have wide experience in recovering for furniture claims against truckers and steamship lines. Commercial pressure often plays an important part in getting the best possible settlement out of liable parties.
